Hyattsville’s neighborhoods remind you of a small town, where you visit with your neighbors on each other’s front porches. The streets are lined with trees and hidden from major freeways, but you’re only a few minutes away from the Arts District and restaurants.

Within the Arts District, you’ll love the Palette apartments with chef-inspired kitchens, energy star appliances, and architectural accents like brick walls or glass door dividers. You’ll have access on-site to a cyber cafe, rooftop bar, and a dog park, as well as being with walking distance to several organic markets and restaurants. You could also opt for townhomes at Pulte, offering professional landscaping, two-car garages, and roof terraces, as well as first-class interior designs.

What to Do, Where to Go

Hyattsville is known for two things: its Gateway Arts District and sustainable living. Within the arts district, you’ll find Busboys and Poets, a gathering spot for local artists and authors to discuss their work. They also host events showcasing local authors in their bookstore. In addition, you’ll find restaurants like Franklin’s Restaurant, Brewery, and General Store, which still offers penny candy just like it did when it opened over 100 years ago and displays local artists work on the walls.

During the summer, Lane Manor Splash Park offers water activities for the entire family. At the 40-acre park, you’ll find a 25-meter pool, water slides, a children’s pool, and Red Cross swimming lessons.

Highly Rated Schools

Located  two miles away is the Ivy League college, the University of Maryland. It offers over 100 degree programs and even offers the option of allowing students studying the same major to room together in the same dorm.

Within 1,100 acres, you’ll find over 75 city parks and ball fields throughout this family-friendly neighborhood, including the 85-acre Allen Pond Park. This park not only features numerous sports fields but houses the Bowie Skate Park and the Bowie Ice Arena. In the summer, you can fish at the stocked Allen Pond. If you love sports, head to Prince George’s Stadium to watch professional baseball team Bowie Baysox play.

The area also features performances and workshops at the Bowie Playhouse and the Bowie Center for the Performing Arts. Bowie also houses several restaurants, including Chesapeake Grille & Deli, which features my favorite cream of crab soup and baked 7 Cheese Mac. To indulge, you can go to the Cakery for their homemade flourless chocolate cake or blueberry cobbler.
